About Acadia Psychotherapy
At Acadia Psychotherapy, we aim to help heal and transform our patients for the better.
OUR VALUES
COLLABORATION
The client and therapist relationship is one that is sacred. It’s defined by respect and collaboration. We firmly believe that all clients have what it takes to heal themselves. Our clients are actively involved in their own growth.
COMPASSION
One of our main goals is to help patients be kinder to themselves. We do not view them as broken people who need fixing, but rather human beings who only need a path of support.
CONNECTION
The mind and body are connected, and so should therapy be with each other. Having a stronger focus on both can make progress much more effective. Our psychotherapists use mindfulness, breathwork, and somatic practices in addition to traditional talk therapy techniques.
Our Approach
-
Authentic
We show up to therapy as a fellow human encouraging you to do the same.
-
Direct
When we see an opportunity for growth or a new perspective, we will share it.
-
Intentional
There is thoughtfulness and purpose behind what we say, and do.
-
Trauma Aware
Trauma-informed practice, offering a safe space for individuals to heal in.
OUR HISTORY
Acadia Psychotherapy was founded by Elizabeth Boudreau-Boyer, whose personal journey through a midlife divorce ignited a passion for mental health and psychology. After her own transformative experience, she returned to graduate school to pursue her clinical masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. Elizabeth’s story of resilience and renewal deeply influences her approach, as she brings both lived experience and professional expertise to her practice. Her commitment to guiding others through healing, self-discovery, and growth is at the heart of Acadia Psychotherapy, creating a compassionate and empowering space for all who seek support.
WHY DID YOU NAME YOUR PRACTICE ACADIA PSYCHOTHERAPY?
Acadia Psychotherapy is named in honor of founder Elizabeth Boudreau-Boyer’s French Cajun heritage. Her lineage traces back to the original Boudreaux (or Bodrot) family, who helped establish Port Royal in Nova Scotia, Canada, after migrating from France. The Acadians, later known as Cajuns in Louisiana, faced significant hardships, including displacement and exile during Le Grand Dérangement. However, their indomitable spirit, perseverance, and ability to rebuild community in places like New Orleans and southern Louisiana became a symbol of survival.
Much like the Acadians who rebuilt their lives with courage and determination, Acadia Psychotherapy serves as a place where individuals can reclaim their mental and emotional well-being, rising above their own challenges to find strength, healing, and a renewed sense of purpose.
